Thank you for visiting PHOTOSbyJOHN.COM. What I am offering here are
photographic prints for your home or office. Each picture is printed from a
35mm negative or digital file taken by myself. I do not print the pictures myself but have them
custom printed one image at a time, as needed. I matte each picture myself and
mount them on foam core board so what you get is ready to be inserted into a frame
of your choice. Each image is of course signed by myself. Currently I am not
offering limited edition prints like some photographers do. I feel until you get
somewhat well known, offering limited editions only raises your prices. You have
a chance to purchase my pictures at initial offering prices, before I get famous.
I feel I have some quality images to offer and I hope you will agree. If you find
something you like check out the ordering information page for purchase options.
Some of you may notice the images here are displayed in sizes
that are somewhat unusual. That is because all my images are presented
as a golden rectangle. It is a format that has worked for artists for
centuries, and works well for me. Simply stated this format resembles
an 8x12 print as opposed to the more standard 8x10. For more info on a
golden rectangle click here.

RIVERCADE FIREWORKS #2
Image # 9907-04-19
This is the first image I had published. One of my favorite
things to photograph is fireworks. I don't know why, maybe it's the
kid in me. Photography is unlike any other medium in that it allows
you to freeze a moment in time. Nothing illustrates this ability
better than fireworks photography. It makes me wish every day was
the Fourth of July. This picture was taken during the annual
Rivercade event in Sioux City IA. It's been a few years since the
Rivercade fireworks have been launched at the Veterans Memorial Bridge
(the Blue Bridge). The bridge makes an excellent backdrop for
fireworks and hopefully they will continue to include it in their
fireworks display.
GOLDEN ARCH
Image # 9806-07-20
This is Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, UT. Anyone
who has been to Delicate Arch knows how hard it is to get a picture
without someone standing under the arch. Thanks to a German tourist
with a surprising command of the English language I not only got a
picture with no one in it, I discovered a new angle and foreground
element. On this occasion people were taking turns standing under
the arch for a picture and actually leaving a brief time with no one
under it for the rest of us to take pictures. Anyone who stood there
for too long was soon driven away by a string of colorful, if somewhat
misguided, insults by the previously mentioned German tourist.
I didn't want to stand under the arch, but did want to get closer
for some shots. So I approached the arch and took some pictures.
Realizing I had about used up my time, and not wanting to be called a "bimbo"
like the last slow-poke, I quickly hid behind a large rock to allow others
to take pictures before I made my departure. When I turned around
this is what I saw. The sun was turning the rock in the foreground
the most beautiful hue of gold I have ever seen.
